7 held for gambling
Special Operation Team (SOT) late on Tuesday night cracked down on an organised gambling den, under Jeedimetla police station limits and took into custody seven persons on charges of gambling. Officials seized Rs 45,137, a car, three bikes and seven cell phones from the place. The organiser, Pottaram Durgaiah, 50, a small trader, was involved in betting on three cards, an offence under the Gaming Act.

Acting on a tip-off, the cops conducted raid and arrested Durgaiah and six others – Raju, 45, Srinivas Rao, 41, Mohan Reddy, 41, all residents of Gajularamaram, Murugesh, 45, of Kukatpally, Ramulu, 45, of Shapur Nagar and Govind, 44, of Raavi Narayana Reddy Nagar - from Devendra Nagar in Gajularamaram village. An unconfirmed source said that the den organiser had earlier enjoyed ‘protection’ due to his alliance with political bigwigs.
