Hyderabad: It was a tragic evening for the residents of Pragathi Nagar as three children died when they went for a swim in a quarry pit at Yellammabanda under Kukatpally police limits on Monday. Police with the help of expert swimmers managed to fish out the body of one child.


The deceased identified as Kushi Ram, Manikantha and Niwas, all 12 years of age and residents of Yellammabanda in Pragathi Nagar Colony, left for playing on Monday and did not return till evening. Parents of the children desperately searched every possible place, but could not trace them.


While Manikantha, was an eighth standard student, Kushi Ram and Niwas were studying seventh standard in Zila Parishad High School. Based on a complaint lodged by one of the victim’s parents, police launched search operation and they found clothes and shoes lying near the quarry.


“We suspect the children might have entered the quarry for swimming and drowned in it,” said the cops.Police fished out the body of Manikanta and shifted it to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for an autopsy following which it was handed over to his family members.


“The quarry has big stones underneath and we are trying to retrieve the remaining two bodies with the help of GHMC workers and professional swimmers,” ACP (Kukatpally) N Sanjeev Rao said A case under Section 174 (Suspicious death) of CrPC has been registered. Further probe is on.
