The child marriage has many side effects on girl’s health and it may often lead to mortality due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Though the officials have constituted child marriages prevention committees at the village-level with village secretaries, village revenue officers, school teachers, DWCRA group leaders and ANMs, they are unable to prevent the social malady.

Poverty and illiteracy are the main reasons which compel the people to marry off their children, especially daughters, at an early age. Soon after harvesting crops, the farmers make some money and they marry off their children to shed their responsibility even though they had not attained the marriageable age. There are also some cases where, 16-year-old girls are married off due to the terminal illness of their parents and as they wanted to see their daughters marriage before their death.
