Hyderabad: One person was struck dead by lightning in Mutharam mandal of Karimnagar district following sudden cloudburst on Friday. Stored food grains got soaked in Karimnagar and Medak districts on Friday. According to reports reaching the State headquarters, grains kept at several places in Konaraopet mandal and at Kodimyal of Karimanagar district were soaked in rain water.


Farmers across the district suffered heavy loss rains damaged foodgrains. Rain lashed Mahadevpur, Kataram, Mahamutharam, Sircilla, Kodimyal, Boinpalli and Chandurthi mandals. About 500 quintals of grains kept at purchase centres in Medak districts were damaged


In Nizamabad district, there was widespread rain at several places. Two heads of cattle in Pitlam mandal and one in Anantapalli in boinpalli mandal of Karimangar districts were struck dead by lightning. Farmers of Dommata, Surampalli and Daulatabad in Medak district expressed anguish over the damage to paddy.


About 4,000 bags of paddy were damaged at Surampalli IKP centre, they said. About 200 quintals of grains kept at agricultural market yard in Jogipet was soaked in rain water. Farmers alleged that the yard officials did not provide them gunny bags.
