Arrest of Cameroon nationals

Hyderabad: One may wonder what could be the link between Cameroon nationals and Tollywood. They have come all the way from African countries and take admission in colleges with single-minded purpose of watching Tollywood movies. They have customers in the industry to buy drugs. They have found a ready market in Telugu film industry.

The link between drug peddlers and some Tollywood personalities came to light when Telugu film actor Ravi Teja's brothers B Raghunath Raju and B Bharath Raju and their friend D Naresh were arrested while buying drugs from a Nigerian a couple of years ago. Police investigation led to revelation that the Nigerian had 60 customers in the industry.

Very recently the two Cameroons, who donned the role of villains in the Telugu film “Swami Ra Ra” took their reel character too seriously and were arrested on Tuesday. Now the question was who approached whom? How could they secure a role in Tollywood film? “The foreigners know whom to approach in Tollywood industry,” a senior police officer.

Some drugs not only give a kick but also they give a glow to face. There is a misconception that some drugs are used to add charm to face. A large number of foreign students have enrolled at the EFLU, University of Hyderabad, Osmania University, JNTU and other affiliated engineering and degree colleges.

A professor in a city university said most of the students were from developing countries in Asia and Africa. “The students usually come on scholarship and are from underprivileged backgrounds. Many of them stay back in India even after visa expires,” he says. “I think those in the drug business are not students but rather professional offenders who have come with the sole intention of carrying out such activities, and not studying,” he added.

The interrogation of the Cameroons, the police said, had revealed that the arrested, Alex Rodrigue Eboko and Ndim Abake Mathieu, through the marketing website had offered steroids, potency drugs, Botox, etc.
