Ten persons died on Monday when a bus hit a stationary autorickshaw at Marikavalasa village near Madhurawada. The accident occurred when the passengers were alighting from the sharing auto-rickshaw, the Rajam-bound RTC bus after overtaking a Scorpio van hit the auto killing nine persons on the spot and injuring nine others.

Visakhapatnam: Ten persons died on Monday when a bus hit a stationary autorickshaw at Marikavalasa village near Madhurawada. The accident occurred when the passengers were alighting from the sharing auto-rickshaw, the Rajam-bound RTC bus after overtaking a Scorpio van hit the auto killing nine persons on the spot and injuring nine others.


One person succumbed to injuries at KGH. The impact of the mishap was so high that the RTC bus dragged the auto-rickshaw with the passengers to a distance of 50 yards and rammed into roadside shops. Customers at the shops ran helter-skelter for safety while the bus driver escaped from the accident spot.


The entire road was spilled with blood stains and the bodies were strewn all over. The dead were identified as K Hari,22 (auto driver), M Lakshmi Kant, 15, M Krishna Kanth, 17, K John Babu, 40, M Sreenu, 40, G Chinna, 40, Sk Peer Saheb, 42, T Radhamma, 50, G Dilip, 8 and K Ravi, 11, belong to Anandapuram and other nearby villages.


With the spread of accident news, the villagers rushed to the spot and helped police in relief operations. Some of the injured were shifted to the KGH where one person succumbed to injuries and a few were admitted to the Gayatri Medical College. Bhimunipatnam Assembly Segment incharge of Telugu Desam Party Parachuri Bhaskar Rao visited the Gayatri teaching hospital where the injured Meesala Narsing Rao, Uppili Srinivasa Rao and Salida Sreen were undergoing treatment.
