Man sentenced to 10 yr RI for raping daughter

Hyderabad: A 38-year-old labourer accused of raping his own daughter was convicted and sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by a court in Hyderabad on Monday.

Mohammed Saleem, who was working in a Pan shop was accused of raping his younger daughter at his home in Chandrayangutta. Saleem’s wife had lodged a complaint with the Chandrayangutta police on May 6, 2011, that her husband had raped their nine-year-old daughter on April 28, while she was sleeping at home.

The victim was a fourth standard student when her father sexually exploited her, the police said, adding that, Saleem raped his daughter several times and threatened the victim not to disclose the matter to her mother.

The accused was arrested on May 9, 2011 and was remanded in judicial custody, the police said. Completing the investigation, a charge sheet was filed in the 5th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court in Nampally.

After hearing the arguments, on Monday, the Court convicted the accused and ordered the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and six months and also pay fine of Rs 500, the police added.
