The special team formed to detect series of bank burglaries in Cyberabad had put sustained efforts in arresting N Bala Murugan, V Dinakaran and Suresh. Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand said Murugan, hailing from Tiruvur in Tamil Nadu, was passionate about movies from his childhood. He wanted to become a producer and see his name on the silver screen, while his nephew and partner in crime, Suresh was aspirant to become a hero.

To fulfil their dreams, Murugan formed a gang in 2008 with Suresh and V Dinakaran and committed several property offences including dacoity in Tamil Nadu. The Bangalore police arrested them in 2011. After releasing in the same year, the moved to Hyderabad and purchased houses in Kismatpur village, Himayathsagar and Shamshabad areas.

Accused Murugan got membership in South India Film Guild and started a banner named ‘N Rajammal Films’ (Reg no: 12457-FS) in 2012, while Suresh started a production company ‘Balamurugan Productions’, but shut down soon due to financial crisis.

They continued to burgle houses and banks in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and collected the money. In 2012, Murugan produced a movie by name Manasa Vinava, with a budget of Rs 50 lakh in which Suresh acted as a hero. The inaugural function of the movie was held in Rajahmundry in which a DSP rank officer and officials from Revenue department were chief guests.

Murugan planned to produce a movie ‘Aatma’ this year. While the pre-production works for the movie was on, the sleuths uncovered Murugan’s identity, and he managed to escape.

The gang was responsible for burglaries at Deccan Grameena Bank in Ghatkesar, Grameena Bank in Balanagar of Mahabubnagar district, burglary at Varadayapalem in Andhra Pradesh, in which they looted over Rs 5 crore.

The commissioner said, “He selected banks located in remote areas through data available on internet. Murugan always takes his wife and adopted children with him to commit offences. He adopted a boy and a girl, after he learnt about his incurable disease.” The special team worked for 41 days to arrest and recover the property from the gang.
