Guwahati: Security forces had apprehended two militants and recovered three IEDs and huge cache of arms-ammunition from two different places in Assam on Saturday, officials said.

According to the reports, army and Assam Police had launched an operation on specific intelligence from the Military Intelligence agencies in lower Assam Chirang district and apprehended a militant of Rabha national Liberation Army (RNLA).

The nabbed militant was identified as Deepak Rabha alias Poko, self styled Commander in Chief of RNLA.

Security forces had recovered a 7.65mm Pistol, some Ammunition and a hand grenade in possession from him.

“The militant is wanted in a case of IED placed at the railway track near Krishnai in February 15, for a suspected attack on an Army convoy in 2013 and for various extortion and other subversive activities. He is known to have linkages with Drishti Rajkhowa of ULFA (I) and has been trained with the 4th batch of ULFA (I),” a top army official said.

On the other hand, security forces had nabbed another militant belonging to a newly floated militant group Tribal United National Front (TUNF) from Assam’s nagaon district.

Based on intelligence input, police had launched operation at Dhing area in the middle Assam district and nabbed the militant identified as Bipul Basumutary.

Security forces recovered three IEDs, one 7.65mm pistol, seven rounds live ammunition, one magazine, two handmade pistols with six rounds ammunition in possession from him.

On February 4, police had recovered an IED near a school at Dhing area.
