A woman who declared as brain dead is giving life to five people, thanks to the decision taken by her family to donate her organs. Her eyes, liver and kidneys were donated to the hospitals in the city and they would be used for the needy people in near future. 

Hyderabad: A woman who declared as brain dead is giving life to five people, thanks to the decision taken by her family to donate her organs. Her eyes, liver and kidneys were donated to the hospitals in the city and they would be used for the needy people in near future.

Vemula Padma (65), a resident of Kalvacherla village of Karimnagar district, was admitted to NIMS Punjagutta on January 22. Due to a blood clot in her brain, she was declared brain dead by the doctors on February 24. Upon receiving the information, the leaders of Telangana Eye, Organ and Body Donors Association, Ganji Eswara Lingam and Rama Gopi have counseled her family and convinced them to donate her organs.

Vemula Lingaiah, the husband of Padma, and her sons Kumaraswamy, Ramesh, Sampath Kumar, Sekhar, Kanakaiah and daughters-in-law Lakshmi, Bhagyalakshmi, Lavanya, Latha, Annapurna have consented the organ donation. Following their decision, her two eyes have been donated to L V Prasad Eye Hospital, liver and one kidney to NIMS and another kidney to the Osmania General Hospital.

The Telangana Eye, Organ, Body Donors Association has greatly appreciated Padma’s family for coming forward to donate the organs even in such poignant situation. “The donation of Vemula Padma will go a long way in giving life to five needy people,” said Eswara Lingam.
