C Kistiah Chary (70), a goldsmith from Karmanghat along with his family went to Hakimpet to make arrangements for his elder granddaughter’s wedding, which was scheduled to be on Wednesday.

A car overshoots a bridge near Alwal

While returning home at around 2 am, the car in which Chary’s family was travelling met with an accident and plunged over the bridge near Alwal. The police said that as many as eight persons were travelling in a Maruti (AP 29BB 4454) and heading towards Karmanghat. Chary’s son Srinivas who was steering, could not control the speeding the car and hit a bike coming in the opposite direction.

During the accident, Shakthi Singh, a degree student, fell in the trench beside the road over bridge and the car followed the bike. Shakthi died instantly and Chary and his younger granddaughter Kamalini (7) also succumbed to injuries on the spot. The police said that Chary’s elder son Jagan Mohan, employee at Accenture Software Company along with his wife Kausalya was on a bike and following the car.

They called the ambulance and informed the police about the mishap. Others suffered fractures and minor injuries. A case has been registered in the accident and investigation is on, the police added.
