Hyderabad: In a ghastly mishap, seven members of a wedding party, including four women were killed and 15 others injured when the van carrying them overturned near Parigi in Ranga Reddy district on Wednesday. The police said 60 persons were traveling in the van from Dyacharam village in Vikarabad mandal to Uttaraspally village of Mahbubnagar district.

“The accident occurred at around 11 am on the outskirts of Naskal village when the van driver lost control while overtaking a vehicle. Three persons died on the spot, while four others died while being shifted to hospital or during treatment,” Ranga Reddy SP Rema Rajeswari R said.

At least 15 others, who suffered injuries in the mishap, were undergoing treatment at different hospitals, she said. Nearly 38 people, all bride's relatives, were travelling in the van at the time of the accident, the SP said. “Over-speeding seems to be the reason for the accident,” she said based on preliminary investigation.

A case was booked by the Pargi police, who are further investigating the matter. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed shock at the accident and directed officials to provide effective treatment to the injured. He extended deep sympathies to the families of the dead.
