Nalgonda: Police arrested a group of smugglers in Mellacheruvu mandal in the district on Friday while they were trying to sell precious ancient idols in a market illegally. Speaking to the media,

Kodad Circle Inspector Madhusudhan Reddy said that the famous Umamaheshwara temple situated in Mallareddygudem village of Mellacheruvu mandal have 200-year-old panchaloha idols of Lord Uma Maheshwara Swamy, Godess Parvathi Devi and Lingeshwara Swamy.

He said that the suspected kingpin of the racket, a priest of the temple, Anantha Narasimhacharylu joined hands with smugglers and planned to sell off the idols.
