Eluru/New Delhi: Five pilgrims from Nidadavole village in Kovvuru mandal of West Godavari district were killed in a road accident on Sunday, when the vehicle they were travelling rammed into a truck at Kaudigram village in Kaimur district of Bihar, police said. The mishap occurred when the driver of the SUV carrying seven pilgrims to Gaya from Varanasi lost control and rammed into the stationary truck.

Four passengers were killed on the spot, while one of the three injured died in hospital, Mohania police station in-charge Manoj Kumar said. The deceased have been identified as Machavarapu Satyanarayana (50), his son Pawan Kumar (25) and his mother Padmavati Devi (70), Retired Executive Officer of Panchayati Raj Sriram (55) and Rukmini Devi (50), the police said.

The injured persons Kamalavati Devi (50), wife of Satyanaraya and Saraswati Devi (55) have been admitted to a government hospital. Machavarapu Satyanarayana is working as Panchayati Secretary in Brahmanagudem village in Kovvuru Mandal and residing in Kovvuru town. His son Pawan Kumar is a B Tech graduate and searching for a job. The family belongs to I Pangidi village in Kovvuru mandal.

Meanwhile, knowing the incident West Godavari district Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan talked to Kaimur District SP and requested him to take necessary steps to provide better treatment to the seriously injured persons. The SP is arranging to send the relatives of the deceased and to bring back the bodies to the state.
