Hyderabad: The Nampally police on Friday arrested an employee of a handicraft showroom in Lakdikapul, who burgled at his employer’s house. Steel rod fixed in the leg of burqa clad burglar, helped to crack the case within 48 hours, said police.

The accused has a steel rod in his right leg due to which he limps. Though he wore a burqa to avoid suspicion, limping helped in identifying him

During a press meet at his office, Central Zone DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy said CC Cameras installed by the residents have helped the police crack the burglary within 48 hours. On April 26, a complaint was received from one Srikanth of Nampally stating that his house was burgled and huge property was stolen.

On collecting the clues and footage from the CC Cameras, the police lifted Omprakash Anurag Alias Hari (28), employee of the complainant’s handicraft manufacturing company in Lakdikapul.

During interrogation, the police found that Omprakash, an intermediate dropout married and blessed with a girl child, had changed several jobs to earn more money, but could not meet monthly expenses.

“Addicted to alcohol and lavish lifestyle, Omprakash could not raise enough money to run his family. He planned to burgle his owner’s house and went on leave from April 7.

Aware of the CC Camera surveillance at his owner’s house in Express Apartments at Nampally, the accused intruded the house wearing a burqa, hand gloves and socks and burgled gold ornaments weighing 44 tolas and Rs 38,000 cash,” the DCP said.

The accused engaged an auto rickshaw to flee and removed the burqa at Sulabh Complex near Bible House in Secunderabad, the DCP said.

“The entire movements of the accused inside the Express Apartment were captured and the limp in his right leg proved to be a vital evidence to crack the case.

He has a steel rod in the leg due to which he limps while walking,” the DCP said. Upon his arrest, the Nampally police recovered the stolen gold ornaments and Rs 18,000 cash from the accused and sent him to judicial remand.
