Visakhapatnam: The eight-year-old Konathala Uday, who was kidnapped on Friday from his residence at Gavarapalem area in Anakapalle was found murdered on Sunday. The boy’s three fingers of right hand were chopped off indicating that he was tortured before the murder. Uday, son of Anakapalle-based financier and agriculturist Srinivasa Rao was kidnapped by a group of youngsters for a ransom of Rs 1 lakh.

Three people, including the main accused have been identified and taken into custody by the Anakapalle Town police on Sunday. The body was found in a bush on the banks of Yeluru canal, after some passersby felt foul smell from the bushes. The body was in a semi-decomposed state and the police say that the boy was tortured before being smothered to death with a plastic bag.

Police are suspecting that the 20-year-old B Manoj, neighbor of the boy as the main accused in the case along with two others. The investigation is on to establish the guilt and reason for the kidnap and murder, said DSP (Anakapalle) A Purushotham. Inspector of Anakapalle Town G Chandra said that Uday was kidnapped on Friday around 11.30 am and at about 7.30 pm the boy’s father Srinivasa Rao received a call on his mobile that the boy was kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh.

The kidnappers asked Rao to come to railway station at about 11 pm with cash. Rao went to the station but found none. The kidnap and murder of Uday has sparked a protest from the relatives of the boy in front of the police station demanding the cops to reveal the kidnappers’ names and to arrest them on Sunday afternoon. The boy’s relatives alleged that police showed negligence in nabbing the kidnappers.
