Hyderabad: The Lake Police rescued two women and a CRPF constable after they jumped into Hussainsagar in an attempt to commit suicide on Monday. According to the Lake Police Inspector K Sridevi, at around 10.30 am, the patrolling cops had seen J Sravanthi (25), a housewife from Bhoiguda, jumping into the lake and rescued her.

On enquiry, it was found that Sravanthi, who was married in 2006, has three children. She took the extreme step because her husband, who an addict to alcohol, had been torturing her, the police said. On Monday morning, her husband consumed alcohol, came back home and picked up a fight with her.

Unable to bear this, Sravanthi wanted to end her life, the police said. In another instance, at about 11 am, A Manjula (25) of Agapura attempted suicide by jumping into Hussainsagar. She was rescued and brought to Lake Police station by the patrolling staff. “During enquiry, Manjula said she was married about 11 years ago and have two girl children.

Yesterday, she had an argument with her husband and she was beaten. Feeling humiliated, she wanted to end her life,” the Inspector said quoting the victim.

At about 12.30 pm, Nayeeni Satheesh (27), a CRPF constable working at Jharkhand jumped into the lake. He was rescued and given first aid. The constable told that his Commandant Musabani in Jharkhand was harassing him unnecessarily and five months ago he ran out of the CRPF camp for three days.

With the intervention of higher-ups, he was taken back in the camp, but was not paid salary for the past five months and his Commandant was also not helping him. Satheesh, who was the lone breadwinner of the family, could not send money home and wanted to end life.

“In a span of two hours, three persons attempted suicide. They were rescued and counselled. Manjula was sent to Women Police Station for aid and the CRPF constable was sent to Chandrayangutta CRPF Camp,” said Inspector Sridevi.
