​Hyderabad: Despite taking several measures like increase in visible policing to avoid thefts at public places, police are seen failing in providing safety to the public, especially women. In a span of 12 hours, four chain snatchings occurred in the city and two of them in Secunderabad.

On Wednesday night, two chain snatchings occurred at Addagutta in Tukaramgate police station limits and Mahankali temple, and on Thursday morning at Karmanghat, Nacharam, New Bhoiguda and East Marredpally.

On Thursday morning, between 5 am to 7 am, the snatchers robbed a 2.5 tola gold chain from a housewife Chandrakala of Mahankali area when she went out to dump garbage. At Tukaramgate, Ch Laxmi was robbed off her gold chain when she was at her grocery store. The accused approached as customers and snatched her gold chain.

On Wednesday, housewife Sujatha of Bhoiguda was robbed of her five tolas gold chain when returning home from a shop. On Wednesday night three chain snatchings occurred at Karmanghat, East Marredpally and Nacharam and they fled with about 10 tolas gold.

The police have recovered CC Camera footage and identified the accused in all the cases as same. Two men, aged about 25 years were moving on an unregistered black coloured bike were seen at all the crime spots and the victims have identified the bike used by the accused.

Speaking to the media, North Zone DCP B Sumathi said vehicle checking has been intensified in the entire zone and suspected the accused could be from Bavaria gang hailing from Uttar Pradesh. “Investigation is on, they will nabbed soon,” the DCP said.

Meanwhile, the DCPs of the twin commissionerates have sounded alert about chain snatchers. All the blue colts and patrolling vehicles were ordered to cover the residential area and public places extensively and detain suspects for questioning. The field staff was also asked to cover the entry and exit points of the residential areas during wee hours.
