Hyderabad: Excise officials on Saturday arrested former MLC C Radha Krishnaiah and three of his associates for illegally selling imported liquor. The officials said the licence procured by the accused had expired in 2014, but they continued to sell liquor illegally.

On Saturday, the officials intercepted a car moving out of Mangalhat and found huge quantity of foreign liquor in it. Investigation revealed that the liquor was bought in the name of Radha Krishanaiah of Nellore and his associates had been selling it illegally for the past two years.

The officials raided the former MLC’s house at Moulali and a private warehouse at Mangalhat and seized 7,255 bottles of SV Vodka Grand Prix. The accused was issued a licence from the Customs Department in 2010 in the name of Saphalya Beverages and Distilleries, to sell imported liquor,

but it lapsed in 2014. His associates were arrested for selling the liquor illegally. Cost of the liquor seized is worth Rs 1.71 crore approximately. “Radha Krishnaiah suffered a heart attack after being caught. He was rushed to Gandhi Hospital. He will be produced in the Court after recovery,” Customs Deputy Commissioner Vivekananda Reddy said.
