Hyderabad: The West Zone Task Force Police on Saturday arrested a businessman from Mehdipatnam on the charge of cheating job aspirants in police of their money.

Syed Tabeeb Hashmi (32), a native of Nirmal in Adilabad, who runs “Rent A Car” business, had cheated innocent people by promising to secure them posts of constables and Home Guards. He masqueraded as sub-inspector, according to Task Force DCP B Limba Reddy.

The DCP said the accused had been to Dubai in 2011 and came back to city in 2014 and started “Rent A Car” business. He hatched a plan to con job aspirants of their to replenish his poor earnings.
Hashmi faked an identity card and about 10 months ago, he met one Mohammed Fayazuddin, who works as a supervisor in Honda show room at Tolichowki, and introduced himself as an SI, and told him that he can help unemployed persons to get jobs in police department, the DCP said.

“Believing that Hashmi can really help, Fayazuddin conveyed the same to two of his friends. He collected Rs 8.75 lakh from both of them in instalments and asked them to wait for some days and the offer letter would directly come to their home,” said DCP Reddy.

Growing suspicious about Hashmi, the victims lodged a complaint with the Asif Nagar and Humayun Nagar police. Basing on their complaint, accused Hashmi was apprehended by the police at Tolichowki and recovered Rs 28,000 cash, a fake ID card and a phone from him.
