Hyderabad: Shaken by the death of her husband, a woman, along with her three children, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Ghatkesar on the outskirts of the city. The family had reportedly been undergoing a financial crunch for a long time.

According to the police, Satyanarayana (53), an engineer working in Housing Board department at Jangaon, left for Hyderabad on Friday night, along with his family. They stopped at a hotel near Bhongir for dinner.

Soon after taking food, Satyanarayana fell sick and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment. Unable to bear his loss, Satyanarayana’s wife Meera Bai (51), daughters Swati (31) and Neelima (29) and son Sivaramakrishna (22), committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Ghatkesar on Saturday morning.

According to Malkajgiri ACP M Ravichandan Reddy, “The engineer fell sick soon after having dinner at Vivera Hotel at Bhongir. After the doctors declared him dead, the family took the body in their car to Ankushapur, a remote place near Ghatkesar.

They parked the car at some distance from the railway track and all of them jumped in front of a train.” The ACP said that the bodies of all four victims were recovered from the railway tracks. The police also recovered the body of Satyanarayana from the car.

The police said that Satyanarayana was recently reinstated in his job after being suspended for five years. While his daughters had completed their Masters in Engineering, his son was an Engineering graduate. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and a case of suspicious deaths has been registered.
