Kurnool: A farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence after being ill-treated allegedly by an SI at Sanjamala village in Koilkuntla mandal on Tuesday. According to sources, two siblings Gurappa and Sekhar both from Sanjamala village, have been fighting over a borewell for quite some time. The brothers bequeathed property after the demise of their parents.

The land Sekhar inherited had borewell. Meanwhile, Gurappa being the eldest son, also wanted the borewell. The dispute over borewell turned ugly on August 27, as Sekhar sustained injuries in the fight.

He lodged a complaint against his brother with Sanjamala police station. Police arrested Gurappa and released him on bail on the same day. A petty case was also registered against Gurappa and police produced him before the court. The court postponed the hearing to September 6.

Meanwhile, SI Vijay Bhaskar ill-treated Gurappa at the station on Tuesday. Unable to digest the ill-treatment meted out to him, Gurappa committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence.

However, Koilkuntla CI P T Keshava Reddy said family problems might have prompted Gurappa to resort to the extreme step. He further said that Gurappa is an alcoholic and the SI has no connection with his death.
