​Hyderabad: North zone police registered as many as 3,321 e-petty cases since October last year and filed charge sheets against 3,113 cases.

Of these cases, courts imposed fine in 2,614 cases, while in 240 cases the accused were sent to prison for a maximum period of eight days.

E-petty cases application was launched in October 2016 to check nuisance in toxic condition, in public places, eve teasing, public boozing, traffic obstruction, keeping establishments beyond permitted time, simple hurt cases and obstructing the duties of public servants on duty.

Police personnel in Gopalapuram sub-division in north zone have been successful in garnering support from the community by creating awareness on the common man’s right to live in a peaceful environment.

E-petty cases under various provisions of Hyderabad City Police Act are booked through tabs on online platform by Sub-Inspectors with the assistance of Patrol teams by collecting relevant ID proofs and respondents are given “E-Petty case slips” generated on the spot.

The next day, court duty staff of the police station concerned will follow-up with the respondents and they are produced before the courts concerned. One of the important aspects of E-petty case application is that the evidence based mechanism and the ability to show up data of frequently recurring crime and criminals.
