Hyderabad: SR Nagar police on Monday arrested a civil contractor for cheating people promising that he would provide Tirumala Srivari seva services to them.

According to police, the accused Anam Rajkumar Reddy (45), a resident of Manikonda and native of Nellore, had collected about Rs 20 lakh from Shivbagh Colony residents of SR Nagar police station limits in September saying that he would provide Srivari clothes and tickets for Abhishekam to them.

About 20 families including senior citizens booked tickets with him and paid money in September, 2018. The victims approached the accused through a person Sukumar Reddy (63). The accused promised them that they would travel to Tirumala in the first week of January.

When the accused failed to do so, the victims questioned him and when they realised that he had cheated them they complained to SR Nagar police. The police registered a case under sections 406 and 420 of IPC and investigated the matter. On Monday when he was moving at Maitrivanam area in a suspicious way they took him into custody. During interrogation the accused confessed that he had taken Rs 20 lakh from the victims.
