Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Police on Monday reportedly cracked the mystery behind the murder of NRI industrialist Chigurupati Jayaram. The police said the prime suspect in the case, Rakesh Reddy, had confessed to the crime and also revealed the modus operandi used by him in the crime. The AP police, however, are yet to confirm it officially.

According to sources, Rakesh Reddy, during police interrogation, confessed to the crime. He was quoted as telling the police that he had killed Jayaram unintentionally. He allegedly placed Jayaram under house arrest at Jubilee Hills in a bid to recover Rs 4.5 crore loan owed to him.

On being pressured by Rakesh Reddy, Jayaram reportedly called up his friends, including his niece Shikha Choudary, requesting them to lend him money to repay the loan. Only one of his friends, named Eswara Prasad, had responded and lent him Rs 6 lakh and paid the money to one of the associates of Rakesh Reddy.

In his confessional statement, the suspect reportedly told the police that he had called up Jayaram on knowing that the latter hand landed in Hyderabad from the US. Jayaram reportedly promised to repay the loan, but later he started avoiding Rakesh Reddy.

He lured Jayaram to the latter’s house at Jubilee Hill by making the former believe that a woman, Reema, was speaking to him on WhatsApp. He displayed a beautiful woman’s photo on WhatsApp and saw to it that the woman, Reema, spoke to Jayaram. He was asked to come alone.  When Jayaram went there, Rakesh Reddy and his accomplices dragged him inside and placed him under house arrest. Rakesh Reddy reportedly assaulted Jayaram, demanding that the latter repay the loan. Jayaram died of beating as he was suffering heart disease.

In a bid to dispose of the body, he dumped it in his car dickey and drove towards Vijayawada. He reportedly told the police that he had consumed alcohol at many places to hold his nerve. He reportedly confessed to have left the car with body in it in the fields at Ithavaram under Nandigama police station limits. Later he caught a bus and went back to Hyderabad. Meanwhile, the police are questioning some more persons to identify their role in the entire episode.
