meesevaEluru: West Godavari District Joint Collector Dr Baburao Naidu on Monday informed that about 70 Mee-Seva centres in the district were facing closure for failure to stick to norms in their maintenance. He was reacting to the requests of unemployed youth for sanction of new Mee-Seva centres during Prajavani programme at Collectorate here. He said that it had become a fashion among the youth to seek Mee-Seva centres in the recent past. He advised them not to approach the district administration with proposals for new Mee-Seva centres as the number of existing centres was more than enough. The administration had served notices to many operators of Mee-Seva centres for failure to organise them on expected lines. The youth who pinned their hopes on the centres should look for other options before approaching the authorities, he suggested. Referring to repayment of loans issued under different government schemes, the Joint Collector requested the beneficiaries not to expect loan waiver. He asked them to work hard and attain financial stability to repay the loans taken from the banks. His reaction was prompted by several requests for loan waiver during the weekly programme. He said the banks were basically commercial institutions and lending loans as part of their responsibility to execute various government schemes. It was not the right attitude among the beneficiaries to look at options to avoid repayment. They should always try to make best use of the loan given at low rates of interest. It was good for them to part with a portion of the profit made out of the loan towards repayment. Spending the loaned sum on luxuries and other enjoyments would not benefit them, he warned. Stating that hard work was the key to success, the Joint Collector said that it would be easy to achieve development of society if people put in efforts in a coordinated manner. The tendency of reluctance in repayment was growing among the beneficiaries for some time, he lamented. Sharing success secrets, Dr Baburao Naidu said that one should be logical in investing the money in any business. There was no point in pooling in investment in the same business by many beneficiaries. A considerable number of beneficiaries had been closing down their business units for want of strategic investment. The beneficiaries should be aware of the fact that doing the same business organised by others would eat into their profits.
Ordeal of aged couple
A woman, Gadikatla Bhanumati (70), came to the Collectorate to narrate her family's ordeal with a fraud builder who took a sum of Rs 14 lakh from her with the promise to allot a flat in an apartment. She complained that the builder, Potula Durga Prasad of Velpur village in Tanuku mandal, failed to fulfil the promise even after one year of payment. Unable to cope with the shock of losing their hard earnings, her husband suffered a heart stroke. While he remained bed-ridden, Bhanumati is wandering aimlessly for justice. Moved by the pathetic story of the aged couple, the Joint Collector directed the Woman and Child Welfare Department legal coordinator Veena to settle the issue immediately.
