Pithapuram (East Godavari): State Intellectual Forum president Chalasani Srinivas found fault with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for taking a decision on bifurcation without studying the history. He was the chief guest at a programme conducted on
'Importance of Telugu people and bifurcation’ at Pithapuram on Sunday. The programme was under the aegis of Suryaraya Vidyananda Grandhayalaya Samstha at Pithapuram in East Godavari district. Earlier, former MLA Pendem Dorababu felicitated Chalasani Srinivas with a shawl and bouquet.
Going down the memory lane, he recalled the history of Hyderabad. The role of Seemandhra people was very much there in the development of Hyderabad since its inception. Therefore, Hyderabad belongs to everybody in the State, he elaborated.
In fact, Andhra people were ready for bifurcation and launched Jai Andhra movement in 1972, but the then Chief Minister PV Narsimha Rao and the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi were instrumental in convincing the people against the division of the State, he recalled.
But now Sonia Gandhi dumped the unity in diversity principle and took the decision, he deplored. Samajwadi Party president Jagadish Yadav, Surya Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Dr K Venkat Rao, Pithapuram Bar Association president Bhanumurthy and others were present.
