Rajahmundry: The Samaikyandhra movement further intensified in Ravulapalem, Tuni, Anaparty, Amalapuram and Ramachandrapuram areas of East Godavari district. After Revenue Divisional Officer and Municipal Commissioner joined the agitation, the Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs) also took part in the stir on Friday in Rajahmundry. APNGOs’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders G Haribabu, Samson, Johnson, Vidyasagar and Venumadhav organised MRO’s relay hunger strike opposite Sub-Collector’s office. All the MROs in Rajahmundry Revenue Division, including a good number of women MROs, participated in the hunger strike. Kolamuru Prabhakar, former Revenue employee and correspondent of a high school, gave an inspiring speech during the dharna.
For the first time, the Tamil Association participated in the Samaikyandhra agitation at Rajahmundry on Friday. Members of the Association sat on hunger strike under the banner of Rajahmundry Chamber of Commerce JAC. All the Tamil merchants and vendors in the city participated in a dharna at Kotagummam Centre. On behalf of the JAC, Balarama Naidu thanked all the Tamils who were supporting the cause of united Andhra Pradesh.
Road Transport Officer Hymarao led a rally of all transport vehicles from his office near Lalacheruvu in which trucks, cars, auto-rickshaws, mini-transport services, mini-lorries, sand transport vehicles, motorcycles and other vehicles. All the transporters reached Pushkar Ghat and formed a human chain. The agitators raised slogans against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao.
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLC Adireddy Apparao, Vasu, party leader TK Visweswara Reddy and others conducted ‘Yagnam’ at Kotagummam in support of party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who was on fast-unto-death at Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad.
Seemandhra Advocates’ JAC, under the leadership of Muppalla Subba Rao, organised all-religion prayers at The Hindu Square on Friday for a change in the mindset of Sonia Gandhi and peace for people of all regions in the State. Rajahmundry Bar Association office-bearers participated in the prayers.
Meanwhile, Muslims JAC organised mass Namaz at Azad Chowk on Friday in support of Samaikyandhra. Students, professors, lecturers and farmers of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University organised a rally in support of united Andhra Pradesh. TDP leaders Rachapalli Prasad, Naveen and others continued their hunger strike on Friday.
Motorcycle rally
A massive motorcycle rally was organised in support of united Andhra Pradesh under the aegis of MLC and chairman of Chaitanya Educational Institutions KVV Satyanarayana Raju at Rajahmundry in East Godavari district on Friday.
The rally, led by MLCs Chaitanya Raju, K Ravi Kiran Verma and Godavari Institute of Engineering & Technology (GIET) managing director Sasi Kiran Verma, reached Anala Venkata Appa Rao Road via Lala Cheruvu, Central Prison, Arts College, Kambala Tank, Devi Chowk, Gokavaram Bus Stand, Pushkar Ghat and Danavai Peta.During the rally, Mr Chaitanya Raju and Mr Ravi Kiran Verma took part in ‘Vanta-Varpu’ programme at the Vegetable Market near Kambala Tank.
‘Samaikya Galam’ held
At a public meeting ‘Samaikya Galam’ held on the banks of the Godavari on Friday, Visalandhra Mahasabha state general secretary Parakala Prabhakar said politicians misled the people of Seemandhra. People from all walks of life, except politicians, attended the meeting. CCC managing director and convenor of all JACs Pantham Kondala Rao presided over the meeting.
Mr Prabhakar expressed the hope that the Congress and the UPA would withdraw the decision of bifurcation of the State. Terming the Congress Working Committee a ‘Congress Chor Committee’, he opined that the decision taken by the CWC could be revoked similar to the statement made by Union minister Chidambaram on Telangana. He called upon the people to put an end to the political careers of Sonia Gandhi and KCR. CCC chairman V Bhaskar Ram, APNGO JAC convenor Geddada Hari Babu, Advocates JAC convenor Muppalla Subba Rao and leaders of RTC, revenue, judicial employees, municipal employees JACs and cable operators took part in the meeting.
Cops disrupt fast by JNTUK students
Kakinada: Students who were on a relay hunger strike at JNTUK for the past few days were whisked away by the police to the hospital. Tension prevailed for a while but the police politely led the students away. Samaikyandhra activists staged a unique protest at the Collectorate with some men rolling on the floor while the women were beating them with neem twigs. The hunger strike by youth in Sarpavaram reached third day on Friday.
Yanamala resigns
TDP politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu resigned from his MLC post. He submitted the resignation letter to Legislative Council chairman Chakrapani. Several activists of Samaikyandhra from Tuni constituency and from all over East Godavari district have been demanding Yanamala’s resignation for quite some time now. As they chased him at all the meetings that he attended and insisted on his resignation, he yielded to their pressure. The issue was a hot topic in Tuni.
