Hyderabad: The Samaikyandhra agitation demanding withdrawal of the decision to divide the State intensified on Day 43 in at least half a dozen districts on Wednesday. A large number of people assembled for the ‘Ugra Godavari Laksha Janagala Garjana’ organised at Kovvur in West Godavari district, while there were demonstrations at Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nellore and other districts.
Miscreants pelted stones at the camp office of Minister Botcha Satyanarayana at Garividi in Vizianagaram district, smashing the windowpanes of the building. The incident occurred during the rasta rook organised by the Teachers JAC.In West Godavari district, Yuva Garjana was organised at the Fire Station in Eluru and Laksha Gala Garjana was organised at Tanuku by the MSOs.
During the Ugra Godavari Laksha Janagala Garjana, students of various schools attended the programme attired like Alluri Sitarama Raju, Mahatma Gandhi, Bharat Mata, Telugu Talli and others. All shops and business establishments remained closed in support of the agitation. In Visakhapatnam district, agitators organised Laksha Gala Garjana at Anakapalle which was addressed by the Visalandhra Mahasabha leader Parakala Prabhakar. In Kadapa district, youth organised a 5k Run in connection with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda.
In Krishna district, the Students JAC organised a motorcycle rally in Vijayawada. The protesting students vowed to continue the stir until rollback of the decision to divide the State. The JAC has given a call for 48-hour bandh in Krishna district in support of the Samaikyandhra. In Prakasam district, the Employees and Teachers JAC gave a call for 48-hour bandh in Chirala. So, all shops and establishments remained closed in the town. The streets wore a deserted look.
In Chittoor district, the Samaikyandhra JAC organised Siva Garjana in Srikalahasti town, attracting about 50,000 people. School children performed cultural programmes, highlighting the importance of the unity of Telugu –speaking people.
