New Delhi: TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday demanded that the Centre play a proactive role in seeking a solution to the political crisis engulfing Andhra Pradesh. For the second day running, Naidu continued his with meetings with national leaders and earlier in the day. He met Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav and CPI leader A B Bardhan. His attempt is to persuade the leaders of all political parties to bring pressure on the Centre to step to facilitate a solution.
Asked if Third Formation was discussed, both JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav and Chandrababu Naidu maintained politics was not discussed. Sharad Yadav said the Congress has bungled in handling the Telangana issue. CPI leader A B Bardhan also singularly blamed the Congress for the entire mess, as it did not consult any political party. The CPI, too, supported the creation of Telangana, but the party disapproves the way it has been done by the Congress, Bardhan said.
Addressing media conference in the capital, Chandrababu Naidu steered clear of questions on whether or not he would join the NDA, insisting that presently the resolution of political crisis in Andhra Pradesh is his topmost priority. To persistent questions, Chandrababu Naidu shot back that whenever nation faced a crisis, the TDP rose to the occasion and played a national role, since the times of later TDP founder N T Rama Rao, who went on to become the National Front Chairman in 1989. Even now, he said, he will continue to play a national role.
At the media conference venue, supporters of united Andhra Pradesh in the capital barged in and raised slogans supporting united Andhra Pradesh. Over the weekend, apart from President Pranab Mukherjee, Chandrababu Naidu met CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat and BJP President Rajnath Singh.
All the political leaders were convinced with the TDP leader’s assessment about the genesis of the crisis, which is the Congress feat of not merely dividing the State but the people. Since the Congress has messed up the situation with its shoddy handling, the emphasis was on the Central initiative to facilitate dialogue between the JACs and civil society on either side of the divide to find enduring solutions.
Deploring the Congress attitude, Chandrababu Naidu recalled how AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh declared the DNA of the Congress and the YSRCP is the same. Is it corruption, asked Chandrababu Naidu, as the YSRCP is facing allegations in the State and the Congress at the national level? When YSRCP supremo was in jail, for Digvijay Singh to say such a thing is shameful, he said. Besides, immediately after CWC Resolution on July 30, Digvijay Singh appealed to TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao to merge the TRS with the Congress and within hours, KCR endorsed it. Similarly, responding to the debate on Telangana in the Rajya Sabha, Finance Minister P Chidambaram behaved “irresponsibly.”
Cutting across party lines, when all the political parties criticised the Congress handling of the issue, Chidambaram’s reply was, “The more you criticize the Congress, it will emerge that much stronger.” Both Digvijay Singh and Chidambaram made it known that what the Congress is looking for is only political advantage, Chandrababu Naidu said. It is because of the partisan handling of the Congress that the situation has been thoroughly messed up. Chandrababu Naidu was accompanied by senior party leaders Nama Nageshwar Rao, T Devender Goud, Ravula Chandrashekhar Reddy, Errabilli Dayakar Rao and Gundu Sudha Rani, besides Kodella Sivaprasad Rao and K Ramamohan Rao.
