Hyderabad: Day by day the fees reimbursement storm is getting muddier. Making it a mention that there was a big scam that went into the fees reimbursement scheme, the Telangana government cancelled the scheme in Toto to implement a new scheme in the name of FAST (Financial Assistance for Students of Telangana), which will be applicable only to the fees of Telangana students of those families who have been residing in the region prior to 1956. On the other side, Telangana government has Rs 1300 Cr burden towards the pending arrears in the Fees Reimbursement scheme.

In fact, the amount is due from the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. Nevertheless, post state bifurcation, the arrears have been transferred to AP and Telangana governments. However, it is learnt that with a pretext of corruption into the scheme, the Telangana government may not be disbursing the said arrears. Also, the government of Telangana is even ready for a legal fight in the court on this very issue. This decision may worst hit the survival of the many private colleges who rely on the very scheme.
