New Delhi: A total of 900 students and 100 teachers from Delhi University (DU) will travel to all the eight northeastern states to enrich the students' understanding of the region.

Students were selected from different colleges on the basis of project proposals

A statement released by DU said the educational train journey will take place between December 20-30, 2014.

Named ‘Gyanodaya Express’, it aims to understand and appreciate the glory of each of the northeastern states with a focus on national integration.

Selected from different colleges on the basis of project proposals, the students would be divided into groups of 12-15 with a mentor or teacher. Each group will have at least one student from the northeast.

"The students will work on projects based on ideas that shall give a deeper understanding of the richness of the region and its contribution in diverse ways towards the well being of the nation," the statement said.

"Issues related to citizenship, national integration and ideals propounded by eminent leaders including those from the northeast would be addressed," it added.

The university said the students would also meet representatives of local universities and senior functionaries of the states including governors.
