The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), a national professional body set up to develop and regulate the profession of company secretaries, has announced the Secretarial Skills Development Programme on a trial basis in Hyderabad. “The pilot project, once successful, will be replicated all over India,” informed Atul H Mehta, and its national president.

The programme is targeted at graduates and undergraduates who can extensively utilise the opportunity to choose their career in company secretaryship. This 15 days classroom training offers thorough knowledge about secretarial aspects. They will have 30 days of practical training at various PCS firms/companies.


The key takeaways of the programme are how to maintain secretarial records, how to prepare minutes and how to file necessary forms. “The ICSI will operate a huge campus in Bhopal where the intake will be well above 1,000 students. The in principal allocation of land has already been procured,” said Atul.


He mentioned that the Centre for Excellence which is currently under construction in Uppal with over 50,000 sq ft built up area will be ready by December. The second such center after Mumbai involving an investment of Rs 20 crore will give an opportunity for students from south India to pursue CS training with hostel facility.


ICSI has recently issued secretarial standards approved by the Central Government. The same will be notified by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. These standards will become effective from July 1 this year. With these new standards, ICSI has become the pioneer and the only institution in the world so far to have issued the same.
