The boss-subordinate conflicts are quite common in most corporate. The underlying causes can be many for such conflicts. However the most common cause is ‘misidentification/misinterpretation’ of ‘power’ and ‘authority’ as the ‘knowledge’, ‘intelligence’ and ‘capability’ of people. Generally the final decision making power and authority always rests with the bosses in most corporate. Because of this, most bosses assume they are the most ‘intelligent’, capable and ‘knowledgeable’ person in the entire corporate. They want people to always recognize the above fact.

Some of ‘such bosses’, in order to prove that, they are the most intelligent and capable persons in the group, veto and question anything and everything proposed by others. By doing so, instead of proving they are the most intelligent, they will be displaying only the stupidity and nothing else. No one in the corporate dares to question the above only because of the ‘power and authority’ the bosses enjoy.

This situation also would cause many intelligent and capable people in the organization to take backseat. They often feel that they do not have the power and authority and hence cannot voice their opinion or views however intelligent and useful it may be to the corporate.

The ultimate authority and decision making power by itself will not make anyone intelligent or capable. And similarly, those who do not have the power and authority need not be less intelligent. The corporate leaders/bosses should not mix unrelated things and cause confusion. The subordinates also should not refrain from making their views because of the fact that they do not have decision making power and ultimate authority.

Many corporate bosses without any knowledge and competency will simply ask questions to people just to satisfy their ego and self created image that they are ‘very intelligent’. Further, they also ask people to change things according to their suggestions/comments without knowing the fact that most of such suggests are stupid and impractical.

Unless people in corporate understand the fact that intelligence and knowledge are different from ones power and authority, the existing bad culture and poor governance of the organization cannot be improved. If people ever assume that the first two components are but mere counter products of ones power and authority, it is a greave mistake they are committing not just to themselves but to the entire corporate as well.

Most of the owners of the organization therefore should not mix their authority and power with intelligence and wisdom. The boss may be powerful but need not be intelligent and wise.
