Over the last weekend, the summer showers have wreaked havoc in the city but managed to bring down the pollution levels in Hyderabad.

The rainy days decreased the pollution levels or levels of Particulate Matter (PM) drastically. Last Monday, the data recorded from the TSPCB, PM10 (standard for measuring air quality) levels showed near 150 micrograms per cubic metre in four different stations in the city.

By Sunday, with the rains in most areas, PM10 levels fell by approximately seven times to the 25 micrograms per cubic metres mark. Near the Zoo Park, the PM10 levels were 51 micrograms per cubic metre compared to 138 a week earlier while PM2.5 recorded at the same station fell from 53 micrograms per cubic metre to 22.

Environmentalist S. Jeevananda Reddy said that the rains can stump particulate matter and reduce pollution temporarily.
