A book "Sustainable Agriculture - Challenges and Prospects” edited by Dr.Sumanchamdra, Prof.Devi Prasad Juvvadi and Dr.Praksh Rao was released by Prof.M.S.Swaminathn, Father of Green Revolution on 3 March 2016 at a function held MSSRF, Chennai. The volume is prepared based on international conference held at Centre for Good Governance last year where in scientists from 17 countries of Africa, Asia and South America have participated.
Speaking on the occasion of book release, Prof. Swaminathan said that sustainability rests on the principle that we must meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. He further added that while conventional agriculture is driven almost solely by productivity and profit, sustainable agriculture integrates biological, chemical, physical, ecological, economic and social sciences in a comprehensive way to develop new farming practices that are safe and way to achieve food security without degrading our environment. Prof.Swaminathan congratulated the editors for their efforts.
Dr.Mohan Kanda, former Chief Secretary of opined that in the long run sustainable agriculture is the only solution for small and marginal farmers. Prof.Devi Prasad Juvvadi and Dr. Sumanchandra dedicated the book to Prof Swaminathan.in a function held at MS Swaminatha n Foundation in Chennai.
