The national capital woke up to light rain and cold winds on Sunday which brought relief from the heat with the minimum temperature settled at 22.5 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average, the Met office said.

"Partly cloudy sky with light rain and thunderstorm is likely during the day on Sunday. Similar weather conditions are expected till Monday," the official said, adding the maximum temperature is likely to hour around 39 degrees Celsius.

He said that 11.9 mm rain was recorded at Delhi's Safdarjung observatory followed by 9.8 mm at Lodhi Road, 5.8 mm at Ridge, 1.4 mm at Aya Nagar and 1.1 at Palam.

The official said that southeastern wind coming from the Bay of Bengal with moisture, cyclonic circumstances in Haryana and trough crossing from west Rajasthan are the reasons of the sudden rain.

The humidity at 8.30 a.m. was recorded at 87 per cent.

Saturday's maximum temperature settled at 40.5 degrees Celsius, average for the season, and the minimum temperature was recorded 29.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average.
