BJP 'maha rally' against coalgate As part of the nationwide protest against coalgate and other major scams, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a 'maha rally' on Sunday. Rajya Sabha MP M Venkaiah Naidu, state leaders G Kishan Reddy, Bandaru Dattatreya, Chinta Samba Murthy, Baddam Bal Reddy, B Venkat Reddy and others took part in the rally. While the BJP leaders intended to conduct the protest from Baghlingampally to RTC X Roads, police intercepted it near VST factory. Venkaiah Naidu and other leaders were arrested and shifted to Gandhinagar police station only to be let off some time later.

Earlier talking to reporters, Venkaiah Naidu criticised the UPA government in no uncertain terms. Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues should tender their resignations for the countless number of scams that surfaced under their tenure, he said. He said that the Congress led government had lost the moral right to govern the nation. "Perhaps nowhere in the world one would get to see such an ineffective and scam-ridden government," Venkaiah remarked. Meanwhile, BJP state chief G Kishan Reddy stated that the Congress government in the State was no better. He appealed to the party functionaries and activists to create awareness among the public about Congress government's complete failure in addressing public issues. "People of the nation are looking up to the BJP led NDA alliance as a stronger alternative for stable and clean governance," he added.
