Prime Minister Tony Abbott told parliament that an Orion surveillance aircraft and three other planes are starting to the location.

“I would like to inform the house that new and credible information has come to light in relation to the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has received information based on satellite imagery of objects possibly related to the search. Following specialist analysis of this satellite imagery, two possible objects related to the search have been identified.”

The PM cautioned that we must not make any presumptions about the nature of the objects at such an initial stage. He stressed that it will be tough to locate the objects. Officials plan to hold a news conference in Canberra later Thursday to discuss the findings.

Australia has been helping coordinate the southern section of the search for the flight on March 8 carrying 239 people including crew members. At least 26 nations are now helping the Malaysian Government hunt for the plane across a sea area covering more than seven million square kilometers.

Investigators believe someone with advanced knowledge of aircraft deliberately diverted the plane. They don’t rule out a terror plot, pilot suicide, or a mechanical failure.

U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday said that the investigation is a top priority for the USA. American and Malaysia investigators are interpreting data from a flight simulator of one of the plane's pilots. Malaysian officials say some of the data has been deleted. They are now busy reconstructing lost data.
