Olive Bistro – A name which needs no introduction. Ever since it’s glitzy entry in 2013, Olive Bistro has carved a niche for itself. Set amidst the high hills, overseeing the secret Durgamcheru lake, Olive is like a sun kissed Mediterranean Island with perhaps one of the most scenic view - an Ideal place for not just a special occasion, but for a leisure casual dining which slowly transforms into a high octane night of bar hop. The pathway to the restaurant is a 50meter walkway with paved stones which unfolds into a magnificent white walled house.

Having been here multiple times, Olive always excites me with their latest additions to its menu. This time it was their “Legends Menu” an amalgamation of their all-time favorites. I was glad to see my personal favorites like the Carolina mustard marinated chicken burger, Greek style farmer’s Salad, the Tenderloin steak and the very popular OB Insanity Cake.
The Beverage Menu had interesting combinations of Milk shakes, Smoothies & Iced Teas at throwaway prices. Peanut butter & Almond was my impromptu choice, perhaps it was a wrong one to start with since it was quite filing, but no regrets whatsoever, this one was simply brilliant and so was the Peach & Apricot. Peach and Litchi Iced Teas needs no special mention as they were perfect pairing with the food for the afternoon.
A perfect way to start your food expedition is with the humble zuppa, Mushroom Veloute – a cold smoked creamy mushrooms veloute cooked slowly was the obvious choice along with Creamy Chicken & Vegetable Broth.
One of the only places where I love Quinoa, I had to let go off the Greek style Farmer’s Salad for the Smoked Chicken & Quinoa Salad. The buttermilk dressing over the smocked chicken, quinoa, pomegranate & lettuce is what makes this interesting.
Not the one to try vegetarian on the menu unless it’s really exceptional, I was forced to try the pizza pockets which was a delight. Filled with corn, mozzarella and spinach, I am sure this would appeal to all the vegetarians. Saffron Arancini which is a deep fried version of rice balls is not to be missed especially with the red pepper mayonnaise.
Crispy Calamari rings with lemon aioli and Fried lemon & chilli marinated prawns is a delight to a sea food enthusiast like me. The chicken tenders were decent enough but too dry for my liking, but the Lamb Meatballs was definitely the star of the evening, a baked version with spicy tomato sauce, this was exactly the way I would’ve liked it to be.
The pizzas served at Olive Bistro is huge, All things Greek was a friend’s recommendation and true to its hype, this was outstanding. A Wood fired pizza with roasted corn, olives, spinach and feta with a slight hint of garlic, this is definitely a must try.
The spinach & corn Cannelloni dint appeal to me as it was too dry for my liking. The mustard Marinated Grilled chicken burger lived up to my expectations, perhaps it was one of the best burgers I’ve had in the recent times.
The Braised Lamb Shank was decent enough, but nothing extraordinary, Though the meat was extremely tender, had there been a little more extra flavor of Red wine & Gremolata it would’ve been great.
From the deserts, the signature Profiteroles was the first one, pate a choux filled with Milk & chocolate icecream , sprinkled with hazelnut and a dash of chocolate. While the filling was perfect to my liking, I would’ve loved it even more had the choux been a little puffy. The next on the list was my favorite and Olive’s emphatic offering called the OB Insanity cake.
It’s a multiple layers of dark chocolate mousse, orange flavored white chocolate mousse & red current mousse layered between two varieties of moist Genovese & coco sponged cake and topped with vanilla & caramelized apricots.
Truly insane ! The Red velvet cake was one of the bests ive had in the recent times and so was the Vanilla Panacotta which was quite tempting to be avoided. Completed the entire experience with the cinnamon flavored gelato which was brilliant !
The service is top notch and the attendants are prompt to suggest you the menu as per your palate. For anyone looking to surprise that special someone, or even for a leisure laid back experience, Olive Bistro is the obvious choice!
