On the junior Chidambaram's candidature from Sivaganga, a pocket borough of the senior Congress leader, he said, "I did not chose my son; the Congress party decided to induct new young candidates and they have inducted 14 such candidates and over 100 across India."Chidambaram welcomed the support extended by Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari to Congress and claimed the party had the backing of all Muslim bodies.
