Buoyant over the high turnout of voters and immense support to the BJP in the first phase of polls which saw voting in 5 constituencies in Assam, the saffron party’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, will be visiting the state again for a series of rallies and campaigns.
Earlier Modi had visited the North East 3 times and the party’s national leadership didn’t have any plans for more rallies in the state by the party’s PM candidate.
Modi will visit Assam on April 17, and will be addressing 4 rallies in the Nagaon, Mangaldoi, Bongaigaon and Dhubri Lok sabha constituencies.
This time during the first phase of polling in Assam, the polling percentage was over 72 percent, and according to the BJP leadership this high turnout is not usual, and this shows that people in the state wants a change.
“The change which everyone is looking for is a BJP led government, and this high turnout of voters have confirmed that BJP will do extremely well in the state, and much better than it had ever done before,” said Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam state BJP president.
On being asked about Modi’s rally in Assam, state BJP’s spokesperson, Shantanu Bharali said that Modi will be addressing 4 rallies in the state, and added that Modi’s wave has already created ripples in the state, which is proved by the huge turnout among the voters in the state.
“Such huge turnout of voters is not something very usual, and you get only when there is a major wave, and the reason this time is definitely the Modi wave. People have realized that only Modi can bring a change and also development, which people in the country are looking for,” said Bharali.
The 4 constituencies where Modi will be campaigning, goes to polls on April 24, and out of these Nagaon and Mangaldoi are presently held by the BJP.
According to the BJP leadership, this time the party has a good chance of even winning the Bangaigaon seat as well, as it has fielded a very strong candidate, Chandra Mohan Patowary, who was formerly a 2 timer state cabinet minister of the regional party Assam Gana Parishad, which had formed government 2 times in the state, and had recently joined the saffron party.
In March this year, Patowary had joined the BJP along with several thousand of his supporters.
