Rebel trouble for all parties: Cong and TDP, the front-runners. Miscommunication between the Congress and the CPI (who are in pre-poll alliance), would see them fighting against each other in Maheswaram.

Miscommunication between the Congress and the CPI (who are in pre-poll alliance), would see them fighting against each other in Maheswaram. The CPI demanded the seat as part of the seat sharing agreement and gave B-form to Aziz Pasha. However, the Congress announced the list and the seat was given to Malreddy Ranga Reddy.

A miffed Azaiz Pasha filed his nomination as a rebel and refused to back down. Incumbent MLA and former home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy was not given the ticket to contest due to the ‘one ticket per family’ policy of the Congress. Her son Karthik Reddy was fielded to contest the Lok Sabha seat from Chevella.

Formed after the delimitation in 2009, the constituency has 3, 79,201 voters with1, 99,171 men, 1, 79,998 women and 32 in the others category.
Maheswaram, Kandukur, parts of Saroornagar, Medbowli, Almasguda, Badangpet, Chintalakunta, Jalpalle, Mamidipalle, Kurmalguda, Jillalguda, Venkatapur, Balapur, Meerpet and Nadargul are some of the important areas in the constituency.
Kotha Manohar Reddy (TRS), Deepa Bhaskar Reddy (YSRCP) and Teegala Krishna Reddy (TDP) are the other contestants.
The two castes-‘Reddys’ and the ‘Gouds’- have a strong hold in this region. The constituency was TDP’s fiefdom before the entry of Sabitha Indra Reddy. Teegala Krishna Reddy has a strong support base in this area. However, this time round, the Reddy vote bank would be shared by all the parties leaving the Gouds and Muslim minorities, who are next in the pecking order, as the decisive force.
The constituency has Seemandhra settlers in the regions bordering Saroornagar, LB Nagar, Nagarjuna sagar highway and P&T colony who are likely to vote in favour of the TDP or the YSRCP.
Though Sabitha might help influence Reddy voters in Congress’ favour, CPI’s Aziz Pasha would hurt them eating into Muslim minority votes. The TRS is riding on ‘T’ wave but the Congress is more than happy to share the spoils. Teegala Krishna Reddy is a strong leader and will offer a tough fight.
All parties have to brave rebels, who will play spoilsport. The constituency will witness a duel between Congress and TDP.
