Hyderabad: In a major blow to the Congress party in Krishna district, party senior leader and former Minister K Parthasarathy and former Deputy Speaker B Vedavyas on Saturday joined the YSR Congress Party. Speaking to newsmen, the two leaders said that Jagan was the only leader who had a vision for the development of residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. They expressed confidence that the YSR Party would come to power in both Telangana and Seemandhra as the people were feeling that only Jagan would implement the welfare and developmental programmes launched by late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. Parthasarathy, who was elected from Penamaluru Assembly constituency, has been staying away from the Congress party’s activities since the Telangana bill was passed in the Parliament.

Like many of his colleagues in the Congress in Seemandhra, he too decided to bid adieu to the party and join any other party that could guarantee his political future. Vedavyas is related to Chiranjeevi through his wife. The MLA’s father Buragadda Niranjan Rao, who was also an MLA, was a close friend of Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy.

After Reddy became the Chief Minister in 1989, he made Vedavyas the Deputy Speaker. In the subsequent elections, Vedavyas was defeated twice by Telugu Desam candidate Kagita Venkata Rao.
