Maneka Gandhi: Country will Decide who StrayedNew Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Maneka Gandhi hit back at Congress President Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka for saying that her son Varun was on the wrong path. Maneka said, "If serving your country is straying from the correct path, then let the country decide who has strayed." The remarks came in the backdrop of Priyanka Gandhi hitting out at her estranged cousin Varun saying that the BJP leader has chosen a wrong path and needed to be led in the right direction. "Varun is a Gandhi who has lost his way," Priyanka, who accompanied brother and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi while filing nomination papers in Amethi on Saturday, said during an address to party workers in Sultanpur. Priyanka's attack on Varun in Sultanpur also holds significance as he is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the same constituency. She even went on to ask the Sultanpur electorate to help guide him the right direction. "Please help in bringing my brother back to the right path,"she said. Usually, the younger Gandhis are reported to be sharing a cordial bond and never in the past have they made any negative remarks about each other. Also, it was earlier this month that Varun Gandhi praised Rahul's work in his constituency Amethi. Addressing a public meeting, Varun Gandhi said that Sultanpur must replicate the development work done by Rahul. "We require small scale industries, like the ones Rahul Gandhi has set up in Amethi. However, I cannot give that example as I haven't seen the work at the ground level," Varun Gandhi had said.
