YSRCP President’s Sister Sharmila: ‘Telangana Had Special Place in YSR’s Heart’

Addressing a huge gathering here as part of the election campaign, Sharmila said, ““We are greatly indebted to Telangana people for supporting us all the way. She accused Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu of failing to perform his duty as the leader of opposition. He had always tried to protect the Congress government even though it acted against the aspirations of the common public.

Speaking of the Congress party, she criticized that it lacked a humane touch and had been hell-bent on harassing Jaganmohan Reddy. She pointed out that soon after the death of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the then Congress removed his name from the list of the accused in Bofors scandal on the pretext that he was not there to defend himself. The same Congress party failed to apply the same principle in the case of Rajasekhara Reddy who served it all through his life and brought it to power twice in the State. The late CM’s name was also mentioned in the charge-sheets against Jaganmohan Reddy, she rued.

Sharmila conducted road shows at Maripeda, Kuravi, Mahabubabad, Gudur and Narsampet in Warangal district in support of YSRCP candidates, Banoth Sujatha, the Dornakal Assembly candidate, and Venkata Rao, the Mahabubabad Lok Sabha candidate of the party. The YSR Congress is supporting CPM nominee B Seetharam Naik for Mahabubabad Assembly seat.

Addressing well-attended meetings at all these places, Sharmila came down heavily on the Congress and the TDP leaderships, while stating that the regime of late Rajasekhara Reddy was a golden era, which witnessed several initiatives like emergency ambulance systems like ‘104’ and ‘108’. She reminded the people that prices of essential commodities were kept under control, gas subsidy was paid and the price was never allowed to be increased during the YSR rule. YSR also did not allow any power tariff hike, Sharmila said.
