Yechury fears Hindu-Muslim war if BJP comes to power

Mangalagiri: CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury on Saturday expressed concern over possible Hindu-Muslim war in the country, if ‘communal’ BJP comes to power. In the event of Narendra Modi becoming the prime minister, the nation would divide vertically. Political power to the BJP at the Centre would trigger clashes between Hindus and Muslims akin to the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, he lamented.

The CPM senior leader organised a road show in Mangalagiri of Guntur district while campaigning for CPM candidate JV Raghavulu. He came down heavily on the BJP for trying to gain politically on the pretext of development. Even though the election process was not complete, Narendra Modi had been touring extensively in the country for one year proclaiming himself as Prime Minister, Yechuri ridiculed.

The CPM politburo member said that it was not NaMo wave but the NaMo-Ragam wave that was sweeping all over now. While NaMo stands for Narendra Modi, Ragam was the abridged form of Rajiv Gandhi, he heckled. Yechury lambasted TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu for joining hands with “communal forces.” Chandrababu who acted as convener for an anti-communal political alliance in the earlier, had paid it by staying in Opposition in Andhra Pradesh for a decade after his nexus with the BJP in 2004. “It seems he did not learn from the mistakes.” Now, he aligned again with the same BJP. Chandrababu was sure to sit in the opposition benches “permanently” in the State this time, Yechury predicted. The CPM national leader targeted BJP and Congress for “cheating” the people of both Telangana and Seemandhra regions by adopting double standards. While the two national parties had been competing with each other to claim credit for Telangana formation to gain votes there, the same parties were shedding crocodile tears on State division during poll campaign in Seemandhra by blaming their political rival for separation of mother from the child. Stating that TDP was also a party to State division, Yechury called upon the people to elect CPM candidate JV Raghavulu for the Assembly seat.
