New Delhi: Returning the compliment, Rahul Gandhi will be holding a roadshow in Varanasi on May 10, the last day of campaigning for the parliamentary seat from where BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate is contesting, to counter Narendra Modi's aggressive campaign in Amethi. Sources said Rahul, Congress Vice President, will be in Varanasi on Saturday for the roadshow.

The decision of Gandhi's roadshow in Varanasi was taken after Modi, BJP's prime ministerial candidate, had held a rally in the Congress Vice President's Lok Sabha constituency Amethi on May 5 and targetted the Gandhi family. Polling was held in Amethi where Gandhi is locked in a triangular contest with BJP's television-star-turned politician Smriti Irani and Aam Aadmi Party's Kumar Vishwas.
Modi's rally in Amethi also came on the last day of campaigning for the eighth phase of polling and was an attempt to give a push to the BJP candidate's poll prospects in the pocketborugh of Gandhi family at a time when Congress is facing difficult election nationwide, particularly in central and eastern UP. Gandhi's road show in Varanasi is being seen as a way of getting back at Modi who had broken the unwritten code that no top political leader campaigns in the political backyard of a top rival.
At the AICC briefing, party spokesman Shashi Tharoor said "we do not have any official word on it" but added it is natural that Gandhi would like to be active in the final phase.
Congress v-p objects to lotus sketch in a polling station
Amethi: Rahul Gandhi complained to the Election Commission after spotting a lotus, the BJP's poll symbol, sketched inside a polling booth in Amethi, from where he is contesting for the third time. And the Aam Aadmi Party or AAP complained against the Congress leader for travelling with 24 cars on polling day.
At a polling station set up inside a school in Phula village, Gandhi raised objections at a lotus flower drawn with chalk on a blackboard and pointed it out to Election Commission officials.
The 43-year-old is touring Amethi extensively on polling day for the first time in 10 years.
As he landed in the Fursatganj airport, he faced protests by the AAP, which has written to the Uttar Pradesh Election Office that he has violated the model code of conduct by travelling with a large motorcade and supporters.
The 43-year-old is widely seen as fighting a prestige battle in the seat previously held by his mother, Sonia Gandhi, and father, Rajiv.
This time, he is in a three-cornered contest against the BJP's Smriti Irani and Aam Aadmi Party's Kumar Vishwas.
On Monday, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi visited Amethi during the final hours of campaigning and pitched for his party candidate, escalating his war with the Gandhis - Rahul, his mother Sonia and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra - in perhaps the most bitterly fought national election.
