Green Building Congress to be held in Hyderabad from Oct 31
Indian Green Building Council IGBC, an initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry, will organise Green Building Congress at Hyderabad from October 31 with the theme Green Built Environment for People and the Planet to promote the concept of green buildings, said Indian Green Building Council Amaravati Chapter Chairman Vijaya Sai Meka
Vijayawada: Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), an initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry, will organise Green Building Congress at Hyderabad from October 31 with the theme ‘Green Built Environment for People and the Planet’ to promote the concept of green buildings, said Indian Green Building Council Amaravati Chapter Chairman Vijaya Sai Meka.
Addressing newsmen here on Friday along with M Anand, principal counselor of CII-Godren IGBC, and TVR Chowdari, co-chair of Amaravati chapter of IGBC, Vijaya Sai said that it is high time all the new constructions were built with green building norms in the larger interest of environment and cost reduction.
He recalled that it was Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu who was instrumental in establishing Indian Green Building Council at Kondapur in Hyderabad. “Luminaries in the architecture world would participate in the Green Building Congress,” he added.
Referring to the certification of Indian Green Building Council, he said that 22 types of certifications would be given for green buildings which promote saving of water, energy and reduction of carbon dioxide.
Elaborating on the green building concept, Vijaya Sai said the green building did not mean landscaping and planting more trees but using green material and green certified products like high performance glass, flyash blocks, low VOC paints and FSA certified wood in addition to the eco-friendly housekeeping chemicals.
The Green Building Congress would interact with builders and other stakeholders to take forward green building movement in India, he said and added they would also strive to provide training and capacity building in order to promote green buildings.
He said Indian Green Building Council is now No 2 in the world in promoting green buildings and wish to become No 1 by 2020 by promoting net zero energy buildings. TVR Chowdari stressed on the importance of conserving water for future generations.
