Celebrate Holi with organic colours

Sukuki Exnora, an NGO working in the area of environment management for the past 12 years, on Tuesday launched a campaign to celebrate Holi with natural colours. The programme was attended by prominent members including Danam Nagender, ex-minister; Amala Akkineni, founder, Blue Cross; Dr WG Prasanna Kumar, environment education expert; and Major Shiva Kiran, president of Sukuki Exnora. Holi falls on Monday, March 17.

Major Shiva Kiran said, “The colours have been made out of flower and natural extracts. Use of natural colours for Holi is not just eco-friendly. It’s easy on the skin and uses less water for cleaning. These colours are being distributed through Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), clubs, supermarkets and other visible locations across the twin cities.

Danam Nagender said, “All festivals should be observed keeping environmental concerns in mind. Playing Holi with natural colours is not only safe for people but also keeps people away from health hazards and skin diseases.

Unnatural colours have chemical substances which are harmful to the human body especially the face, skin, eyes and hands.”

Amala Akkineni, appreciated the initiative of Sukuki Exnora. She appealed to all the citizens to use natural colours to play Holi and contribute towards protecting the environment.

“I was scared of colours. When I was young, I used to hide somewhere in the house during Holi to prevent colours being dumped on me. Now I play Holi with natural colours which are safe,” she explained.
